Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler breaks thumb, likely out for rest of the season – NFL News
Bad news coming out from Soldier Field in Chicago for Bears fans as according to well placed sources quarterback Jay Cutler has injured his thumb and will require surgery leaving him out for the rest of the regular season.
The news comes just a few minutes after the game between the Chicago Bears and San Diego Chargers which the Bears won 31-20. It is not known currently which specific incident during the game led to Cutler’s injury since Cutler
did not discuss any problems in his post match comments.
Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune has confirmed the news on the social networking site, Twitter.com saying, “Jay Cutler has broken his thumb on his throwing hand, a source tells me. Source says the Bears are preparing to move
forward without Cutler ``for a while''. Two sources confirm that Cutler will be sidelined for 6 to 8 weeks, but the Bears have no plans to place him on injured reserve. Essentially, Cutler could return for the playoffs if the Bears are able to keep pace behind
Caleb Hanie.”
With Cutler sidelined indefinitely the Bears will look to back up Quarter back Caleb Hanie to provide the offensive passing and accuracy that Cutler was providing to the Bears offense each week. Hanie will most likely start Week
12 against the Oakland Raiders and for the rest of the regular season until Cutler recovers from this latest setback.
Cutler was again the key during today’s encounter against the Chargers completing 18 passes of 31 attempts with a completion rate of 58.1%. He ran for 286 yards during the game throwing an interception and provided the passes for
two touchdowns as he helped the Bears win their fifth straight game and start their four game run against teams from the American Football Conference West with a win.
The news will be difficult for the Bears fans as Cutler is essential to the team’s offense and it remains to be seen how Caleb Hanie will perform in the Bears side. The Chicago Bears will face off against the Oakland Raiders in
week 12 of the National Football League on November 27th at the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum.
