Beartiz Recari claims her debut LPGA title
A rookie claimed the CVS/pharmacy LPGA Challenge title at Blackhawk Country Club in California on Sunday.
Spanish beauty, Beatriz Recari, vaulted a score of 14-under-par to claim a lead over Gwladys Nocera. This was her first LPGA title and her debut victory in America. Above all, she became the first Spaniard to claim a victory on the LPGA
tour in sixteen years.
Bettors had a similar picture in mind when Recari and Nocera made identical scores in the first two rounds, 68-66. The two early leaders were predicted to run into a playoff battle, but it did not happen.
Nocera, who hails from Moulins, France, broke the cycle in the third round of the tournament by carding a 71, which was one stroke more than Recari’s. Both the ladies entered Sunday in close combat and posted a similar score once again. The final picture
of the leader board viewed the Spaniard in the lead.
The weather conditions were overcast and wet, making it difficult for the players to remain in the realms of under-par. Out of thirty–five ladies, who managed to fulfil the basic goal, Beatriz Recari and Gwladys Nocera were at the top.
Both the Spaniard and the French woman entered the LPGA tour two years back, but were winless. Recari broke the winless label and surged ahead. While still a rookie, Recari shared the overnight lead with two other ladies, Michele Redman and IIhee Lee. While
Redman managed to card a 72, Lee posted a 78 in the final round to eradicate the elements of threat for the winner.
Recari told the press that she was surprised, at the same time proud of herself. Since the age of 9, she wanted to make a name for herself in the LPGA tour, similar to Michelle Wie. When she started playing golf and decided to opt for it as a career, her
parents told her to give the game her utmost best. This is what the 23-year-old did and on the 17th October, 2010, when she claimed her fortune. The lady took home a generous cheque of $165,000.
Speaking to the press, Recari said, "I've always been a person who wants to do well in whatever I do, whether it's my studies or anything. And golf just captured me. I want to be the one who is winning".
The winner of the Finnair Ladies Masters 2009 had been struggling on the LPGA tour in America, but owing to her driving accuracy even in heavy rain, she managed to outshine. She started the round with pars as she did not want to create a fluke when Norcera
was trailing behind searching for a weak point.
However, in the middle of the round, she picked up two birdies to make her victory unstoppable. To counter the two power shots set by Recari, Norcera fired a birdie at the last hole, but could not stop the Spaniard from winning the tournament purse of $1.1
million.
Next on the leader board was Cristie Kerr. She shot 11-under to take fifth place.
Katherine Hull missed a stroke and crossed the bar of over par. She fell into a tie with three other ladies at 8-under. Further below on the leader board was Paula Creamer. The Californian took $10,258 home after posting 73-69-72-70 in the four day session.
After winning the US Open, this was Creamer’s first event back at home, but like always, 39-year-old failed to make her people happy.
The CVS/pharmacy LPGA Challenge, which started on 14th October, 2010, ended on Sunday at Blackhawk Country Club. Beatriz Recari, the Spanish beauty, won her debut title at the LPGA tour. She was chased by Gwladys Nocera at 13-under. The tournament
wrote a whole new chapter in the history of golf, with a Spaniard winning a LPGA title for the first time in 16 years.
