Beatriz Recari finishes inside top 10 at Navistar LPGA Classic 2012
Spanish Beatriz Recari, who has been seeking to end her victory drought since she won her last title at the CVS/Pharmacy LPGA Challenge in October 2010, displayed a solid performance at the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012 as she registered an overall 274 to finish tied for the sixth position on the leaderboard.
Recari’s game looked more perfect than even before as she made calculated strokes on most of the holes.
The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament was held at Prattville, Alabama, with the participation of defending champion Lexi Thompson of the United States and current world number one Yani Tseng.
Other key contenders in the roster included Stacy Lewis, Natalie Gulbis, Brittany Lincicome, Angela Stanford, Michelle Wie, Suzann Pettersen, Hee Young Park, Haeji Kang, M.J. Hur, Laura Diaz, Alena Sharp, Brittany Lang, Gerina Piller, Lizette Salas, Mina Harigae and Sandra Gal.
Although Recari was not among the players who grabbed the top two positions on Sunday, her game was strong enough to help her finish inside the top 10.
As American and Asian rivals fought a tough battle for the coveted title, players like Recari and other lesser-known LPGA stars continued to steal the headlines by coming into contention in the final two rounds.
The first two rounds did not see the Spanish star display her best performance as she shot a 70 and 71 respectively, but she picked up pace from the third round, boosting her score on the leaderboard.
Recari held her nerves and avoided making too many mistakes on Saturday. Having posted an impressive 66 in the third round, the LPGA titan managed to improve her position a little but other players also capitalised on the favourable conditions on the course.
The Spanish golfer has worked hard through the years and been able to craft a solid career for her. She has not only proved her mettle on the LPGA Tour, but also the Ladies European Tour (LET).
Starting her professional career at the age of 18, Recari had to work harder than her peers as she was also pursuing her studies at the time.
“I was 18. I had some offers to play college golf in the US, but I wanted to go pro. The first year I played on the LET, I also studied economics at the University of Pamplona, which is one of the best universities in Spain. I was very happy that year, but it was also very hectic,” Recari shared in one of her interviews.
