Beatriz Recari proves mettle in Florida
Spanish Beatriz Recari was not among the favourites for the CME Group Titleholders 2012, but she rattled rivals after grabbing the 8th position in the third round.
Recari, who is one of the most talented players from Spain, displayed a solid performance at the season-ending tournament, at The TwinEagles Club, Florida, but she crashed out of the top 10
in the final round.
The Spanish star finished tied for the 14th position after she posted an overall score of 283.
She started her first round with plenty of confidence and managed to shoot a 72 to set the ball rolling. Other rivals tried to push her down the leaderboard position in the second round, but
she held her ground and fired a 69 to move up.
In the third round, she further improved her position by carding a 68 and managed to grab a share of the 8th position. However, she tainted her hard-earned position in the final
round as she registered a 74.
The final round was the scene of a nail-biting battle among all the top stars, but Recari was seen struggling to remain inside the top 10.
Another young gun who impressed the field last Sunday was American Lizette Salas. Salas displayed a much better performance at the season-ending tournament as she shot an overall 282 to finish
tied for the 11th position on the leaderboard.
Sharing her thoughts at the end of the third round while speaking to the media, Salas said that she did not let her nerve trouble her and focused on her short game.
The American star said that her putting was exceptionally well in all four rounds, which helped her greatly in improving her position from tie-17th in the third round to tie-11th
in the last round.
She admitted that there were some holes that rattled her. “I hit a couple of chunk shots out there that, you know, it's easy to do out here, but just kind of laughed it off. I chunked it on
my approach on 18 but it was a good one, so I'll let that one slide”.
She said that she tried her best to manoeuvre the ball on the hole. “I was trying to make birdie on 18 and it didn't fall in, so there you go, you can't really force it out here, so it was
good”.
