Beau Hossler invited to play at AT&T National
A great moment for the youngster, as Beau Hossler will be teeing off with the best in the world at the AT&T National.
The tournament is hosted by Tiger Woods and it benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation. The money generated is used to improve the children’s life across America.
Hossler was almost on his way to California State Amateur Golf tournament on Friday, when he received a call on Thursday.
The call was from the AT&T National Director Greg McLaughlin. Beau Hossler was invited to play at the AT&T National. Joy filled Hossler’s home after the news.
“I am pretty happy about it,” Hossler said by phone, on Saturday. “I feel like I can compete on the PGA Tour”.
The tournament is being held at the Congressional Country Club and Hossler has some idea about the golf course. He will be the youngest among the 120 players who will be teeing off.
Out of those 120 players, there will be three players who have recently led the US Open, Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk and Beau Hossler.
Alongside Hossler there are other young aspiring golfers out there who will be participating in this year’s event. There is Jordan Spieth from the University of Texas.
This is also the same place where Hossler is scheduled to go after his high school graduation. Another youngster, Patrick Cantlay, who just turned pro recently, has also been invited to play at the event.
In the US Open, Hossler gained an entry by playing the qualifying rounds this year and the last year as well, but to play at the AT&T National, he needed an invitation from McLaughlin.
Hossler was just sixteen years old last year when he featured at the US Open, he was understandably nervous. He did not play well at that tournament, he never really got going.
This is what Tournament Director had to say regarding Hossler’s inclusion in the AT&T National, “We always like to support the amateurs and foster new talent in the world of professional golf”.
Greg McLaughlin, the Tournament Director of the AT&T National, who also oversees Woods’s foundation, in an e-mail on Saturday stated, “Beau made headlines with his exceptional performance at the U.S. Open. The fans loved him, and we are excited to welcome
him to the AT&T National”.
