Beauchamp Viking to dominate the Towcester Racecourse Supports The Alzheimer’s Society Handicap Chase at Towcester
The Class 5 Towcester Racecourse Supports The Alzheimer’s Society Handicap Chase will be held at Towcester over two miles and 110 yards on Tuesday, 24th April. Taking part in the £1,819 event are eight five-year and older thoroughbreds.
The most accomplished entry on the line-up is Beauchamp Viking, Compton Admiral’s eight-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Beauchamp Jade. He has raced at Towcester relatively more than any other contestant and was successful in striking a victory through
the Towcester start during the previous season.
Beauchamp Viking won the Haygain Hay Steamers Handicap Chase on 18th April 2011 over two miles and half a furlong. With Jimmy Derham riding, the eight-year-old led the 11/4 favourite runner up, Red Jester, by a slight neck’s differential.
Settling third behind the winner was Kinkeel.
The next and last time that he raced at Towcester was as his final attempt of the 2011 season. The 11/8 favourite could not win the “Mazda2” Handicap Chase on 17th May over two miles and half furlong as he finished third behind the leading pair.
The race was won by Ajzal while settling as the runner up was Nesnaas.
His seasonal debut was in the Sis Live Handicap Chase on 28th March at Taunton over two miles and half a furlong which was won by the 11/8 favourite, Douryna.
Beauchamp Viking finished the closest to the winner. Concluding the race third on the line-up of three was Bay Central.
He will race through the second chance of the season today and the first time at Towcester ever since the season shot off.
Another entry who has scored third twice at Towcester during the previous season is Shelomoh, Zaffaran’s eleven-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Parson’s Run.
He settled third after the 85/40 favourite runner up of the race, Sawpit Supreme, in the Haygain Hay Steamers Handicap Chase on 27th February 2011 over two miles and three and a half furlongs.
The race was won by Prophete De Guye.
His second try at Towcester was in the Free Bets @GG.Com Handicap Chase on 15th December. The title was won by Bohemian Rock and Phar Again qualified as the runner up of the race.
He too has raced just once during the new season and will try his luck at Towcester for the first time in 2012.
