Beautiful But Blue gets past her elders in the Fleet Indian Stakes at Saratoga
The New York bred, Beautiful But Blue, did not have a lot of races to choose from, so trainer Tom Bush decided to run her against the older division runners in the $100,000 Fleet Indian Stakes at Saratoga on 1st August, 2012,
which covered a distance of seven furlongs.
Mounted by jockey Junior Alvarado, the sophomore delivered a terrific performance when she defeated, Risky Rachel by 2 ¾ lengths, while the third place was secured by Miss Valentine.
Opus A, Go Unbridled and Lady On The Run finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
The filly ran as an underdog and no one really expected anything, but she turned some head with a lively performance. The trainer stated:
“I wasn’t sure she could handle older fillies, but this filly has really, really come on.”
The pace of the race was set by Risky Rachel, who was in contention with Devilish Spirit. She completed the opening quarter mile in 22.95 seconds.
Beautiful But Blue made her move after the turn, battled with Risky Rachel and brought her best in the final furlong.
It was a clean, and an efficient victory, which she claimed in 1 minute and 22.43 seconds.
The dirt track helped the three-year-old a great deal, since she is familiar with it. Regarding her victory, the trainer said:
"We had to try them - she's just a little extra-special," Bush remarked. "Not that many of them can do that. We're really happy the way this filly has gone."
The daughter of El Corredor, foaled by mare Beautiful America, is progressing rapidly, who now has career earnings of $243,550 and holds a record of 5-0-0 in 9 starts.
Prior to this, the Chester and Mary R. Broman owned runner claimed the Bouwerie Stakes at Belmont Park on 24th June, 2012, where she defeated, Fiftyfour Forever, over the course of seven furlongs.
The jockey, Junior Alvarado is also demonstrating his true skill at Saratoga. On 28th July, 2012, he guided the Bill Mott trained, Raison d'Etat, to victory over Bridge Loan in the Allowance Optional Claimer over at 1 1/8 miles
on dirt.
