it seems to me that beautiful people get the better jobs, make better money.... i saw this on a tv special.

Are average looking people simply doomed to live in the shadow of these people?

I understand that people are affected and influenced by beauty but why must everything be a popularity contest?

  1. 1: On average "beautiful" people do get favored treatement.

2: This is a generalized statement and does NOT apply in all circumstances.

There are a great many celebrities out there that are not attractive at ALL, but have other unique talents or abilities. Being attractive may help in the day to day world of the regular rat race, but those people that are truely exceptional are exceptional for many reasons: sometimes beauty, brains, athletic performance, comedic abilitly.

  2. You may think "beautiful people live better" than your average person but I do not believe they do.  Sure their looks help them because most individuals see commercials and attempt to emulate them.  This acknowledgment gives the perception that they somehow live a better life.

I strongly believe that people who are comfortable with who they are and what they think of themselves live a better life than some of us (it helps if you are beautiful) but this criteria is not essential for living better.

Someone once said: "The three essentials of happiness are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for."

  3. Who decides who beautiful?

I make my own life and I don't live in any shadow.

You make or break your own way in life.

  4. Hi,

I used to be thin.  I was treated sweet by everybody.  Now I'm older and fat.  I've become invisible.  People don't even smile at me anymore.  I think the only way to overcome this sort of treatment is to get a great education.  At least then, people will respect you. I'm working on it right now myself.  Being older and fat only lands you low paying jobs.  I think men fare a little better.  But with women looks are everything. I dye my hair because I'm afraid of ageism too.

    Take care,

    Joyce

  5. As a younger guy I was a good strong 9.  Was no help at all, probably even a bit of a handicap.  A guy needs the outgoing personality, or other social status to use his looks.  An ugly guy with charm beats a handsome guy who is shy all day long.  With women, with networking.  Charming guy with looks vs equally charming guy who is ugly...of course looks are a plus.

For a girl, sure looks are almost everything, as a guy you know.  A girl better have some killer qualities to make up for lesser looks.  And a pretty girl can be shy or dumb, lazy or a witch and still be treated like a princess all day long.

A girl's status comes from what she is........a guy's status is in what he does.

  6. you're right, so many people are worried about what someone else will think of them, it's sad, you know? it's hard though i know i used to be scared about what i thought people thought of me, but i just don't care anymore because why should we let that effect our self esteem?

    good question!

  7. yeah I actually think that's true unless you have some big talent or something..must suck but hey get plastic surgery if it bothers you that much, just be happy with who you are

  8. Beauty does not help you in real life. You must have some talent to be some one, and in my opinion every body has talent, you just need to explore it. But any ways beauty is universal truth; it helps you to be confident, it also helps to get closer to the people, and also helps you to get attention in this messy world. But people with normal out looks can over come these issues my polishing their inner talent to the best. In longer run no body looks how you look like, they see what you have (your inner talent).
