Question:

Beauty Queen Bitten!?

I work in a childcare centre.

A few weeks ago, a girl (2) and a boy (also 2) had a fight. I'm quite sure the girl started it, but the boy ended it when he bit her on the arm! It was quite a bad bite and it bled etc.

Her mother enters her in beauty contests and so felt the need to have plastic surgery performed on her daughter's arm to prevent scarring.

She is now demanding that the boy's parents pay for the plastic surgery to fix the scar. She is also threatening to sue the childcare centre (but there was nothing we could have done)

What should happen in these situations?

  1. I feel sorry for the girl.  Not so much for the bite, that can happen in any home or childcare centre, but more for having such an idiotic mother.

  2. Well, the whole beauty pageant thing makes me sick, so I won't even go into that.  And this lady sounds like a nut.  No court is going to find the boy's parents, or the daycare center, liable for this.  It was a little bite on the arm, by a 2-year-old for heaven's sake.  She'll be thrown right out of court.  So I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I do want to say something about the plastic surgery, though.  People tend to shudder when they hear the word, but really, it isn't always a bad thing.  If a child has an injury that will leave an noticable scar, and if plastic surgery can prevent the scarring, then I see nothing wrong with it.  My son is extremely self-conscious about a deep, red scar on his chin.  We had taken him to the emergency room, where they'd given him regular stitches.  If we'd known at the time that a plastic surgeon could've sewn it up in a way that would leave little scarring, we definitely would've taken him to one.  In fact, when he later got a gash on his forehead, we went straight to a plastic surgeon, and he was able to fix it up with no scarring at all.

If these parents felt that the bite might've left a permanent scar, then I can't fault them for using a plastic surgeon.  But that was their choice, and it's their responsibility to pay for it.

  3. A beauty queen at 2, my God another Jon Benet Ramsey in the making. What an idiot for a mother to put a child thru something so tasteless and demeaning. Why not let a child be a child until she is old enough to make up her own mind. I doubt that much can be achieved by what a 2 yr.old toddler did to another of the same age. She may be looking for a way to win some settlement money by entering her 2 yr. old in a beauty contest after the fact.

  4. The girl's Mom is crazy! A beauty contest at 2 with a plastic surgery!! You have got to be kidding me!! Get a lawyer.

  5. They sound horrible. Kick the girl out!

  6. The woman is just going to have to take it to court and let the jude decide if plastic surgery was "necessary". I have a hard time thinking it is. Besides--if she had the surgery BEFORE she knew if there was scarring she can hardly prove it was needed--unless she has an expert witness who has experience testifying on her behalf that it was. If the childcare place gets sued I guess they'll have to have a lawyer too. The only way they can have to pay for anything is if they were negligent in any way--if the kids were not properly supervised. Personally, I think the whole thing is ridiculous from start to finish.

  7. The problem should have been dealt with the instant that it happened.

You don' t want to know what I think of children in pageants.

If the parents wanted this procedure, they should have contacted the parents of the other child first, not after the fact.

In this situation... let the courts decide.

(under my breath..... the child was 2 freeking yrs old. I fell out of trees before then! Let the egotistical parents pay for it! )

  8. Well you need to have everyone there tell her what happened.

You need witnesses for court if it goes that far. And taking a 2 yr old to a plastic surgeon is kinda in humane if you ask me.

Thats expected in daycare centers also. The boys parents could probably countersue them.

  9. I'm not even sure if I should take this question seriously. That is BOGUS!!!

That woman wouldn't win anything if she did sue, because the plastic surgery was not necessary.
