by buying smaller cars, do you think that the government will have to find other ways to make up for lack of tax revenue generated by the fuel tax? people will be gassing up less. and driving more, maybe a mileage tax? or increase registration fees, they wont let the income just disappear,

  1. It sounds like you believe driving smaller, more fuel-efficient cars is a BAD thing.....conserving energy instead of wasting it is a LIB thing........saving energy instead of squandering it is a DUMB thing.

Even if we were not in this serious energy crisis, conservation would still be a good idea. After all, there ARE future generations to think about, possibly including your grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

So are you saying that you should simply suck all the natural resources out of the Earth so that your descendants will live a harder, more difficult life than you did?

Tax revenues are inconsequential. If we don't start trying to save this planet's natural resources, we won't be able to save this planet for our heirs.

Why is that we boast about saving $100 on a new lawn mower, but refuse to practice those same kinds of savings with our use of natural resources? -RKO-  06/07/08

  2. they have found 1.2 trillion barrels of oil in Dakota and our friends the libs woun`t let us drill for it.

  3. It’s a good bet that the liberals will come up with something like a mileage tax. I mean the evidence is there to see in your water bill tax. People try and do the right thing by conserving water and the town hacks raise your bill, because they did not collect enough on taxes.

Government principals are opposite of the private sector. By supply and demand curves, a business drops prices to sell more , but the government raises taxes on any excuse they have. The only way to control them is at the voting booths. As it stands, we need term limits on all government hacks in office.

  4. Wise states use the "income" from gas taxes to fund road building and maintenance, but smaller cars result in a lot less wear and tear on the roads, so maintenance intervals can lengthen and costs will remain in line with revenues.

  5. " There are hundreds of millions of acres of land that have been taken out of circulation by the government, for whatever reason they have, that is believed by the most knowledgeable oil geologists to contain probably more oil and natural gas than we have used so far since we drilled that first well 121 years ago.

We have a coal supply that is equal to 50 percent of the world’s coal supply, good for centuries in this country.

I grant you that prices may go up because as you go further and have to go deeper, you are adding to the cost of production. We have nuclear power which, I believe, with the most stringent of safety requirements, could meet our energy needs for the next couple of decades while we go forward exploring the areas of solar power and other forms of energy that might be renewable and that would not be exhaustible."

  6. going cranky says it about right.

THere is also lots of oil in mexico , and TON in alaska.

  7. the tax has been a constant for many years now and as I remember it there wasn't one god dam American who didn't want energy independence from the middle-east...this rise continued rise in prices will either accomplish this or break the American economy, my heart goes out to the poor in this time

  8. Because gas prices are so high the governments will still be collecting their share of our money even though less is sold.

No more taxes are required or wanted for any reason.

  9. The government should either raise taxes or cut spending. Unfortunately, they seem to want to do neither, which is why we have such a terrible budget deficit. There is a lot of government waste out there... I would recommend that the next president works to balance this budget with Congress. (Congress never has any guts .... our country's hands are in either McCain or Obama.)
