Because in in the UK it is driven to the left while in the whole rest of europa it is driven to the right?

There are lots of countries that drive on the left, not just Britain.  In fact about 1/4 of the world does.  It's to do with the old days and most people being right handed and fending off attacks etc.  Apparently in the 1700s everybody travelled ont he left for this reason.  There's full information on it in the link below.
