Are there any foods we may have on hand other than suet or dried fruits which are also costly that would help us feed our birds during the long harsh winters?

  1. Wild birds have a way of finding food in the winter. If they didnt we wouldnt have so many come spring. Any little thing you give them is welcomed and helps out. What birds outside have trouble finding is water. Their resources are a lot of the times frozen over. Cereals and breads are fine to use.

  2. Sorry, but birds cannot survive very long on dry bread crumbs. I have found dried fruit in packages at the store for a dollar or two. They love it. And they also love cooked rice or noodles (Top Ramen is very inexpensive), they love it. You can find sunflower seeds from Farmers fairly easily, depending on where you live. They will also eat cereal and just about everything we eat, except chocolate and Gaucamole is not good for them. I have 25 years experience raising Birds. Hope this helps

  3. are  you talking about domesticated birds? (ie. pets living in the household?) if so that is not a proper diet, it would be better for you and them to sell them so someone who can afford to take care of them. My birds are fed the best seed, fruits, veggies, eggs everything. that is cruel
