Becca Mann secures Women’s 10k Open Water gold – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Becca Mann of USA secured gold medal of the Women’s 10k Open Water on day five of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Monday, August 27.
Mann, who proved her mettle in 1500m freestyle on earlier day of the championship, served notice of her talent and occupied gold medal of the distant event.
The American faced no trouble from her opponents throughout the race and made her way to the finishing end for crown of the race. With her epic pace, she stayed in a considerably lead over her opponents and crossed the finishing line with a timing of 1 hour,
57 minutes and 22.00 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 18 seconds faster from Emily Seymour of Australia, who followed her on the finishing line as second fastest swimmer by posting a time of 1 hour, 57 minutes and 40.00 seconds.
Seymour was followed by Rachel Zilinskas of USA, who remained 14 seconds away from upsetting her former finisher and emerged on the finishing line for bronze medal by clocking a time of 1 hour, 57 minutes and 54.00 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Grace Sommerville of New Zealand, who remained marginally away from Zilinskas and clocked a timing of 1 hour, 57 minutes and 54.00 seconds.
Subsequently, Sommerville was trailed by Kareena Lee of Australia, who remained 12 seconds apart and ended her swim with a timing of 1 hour, 58 minutes and 06.00 seconds.
Lee stayed marginally ahead of Miki Asayama of Japan, who stayed very close to her and posted a time of 1 hour, 58 minutes and 06.00 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Marin Osaki of Japan, who stayed six seconds slower and clocked a time of 1 hour, 58 minutes and 12.00 seconds.
Mann was very contented with her undisputed effort in the 10k discipline and articulated that she would keep working hard to achieve the same at the higher levels of international swimming. In addition, Mann received her accolade after the completion of
event and received appreciation from the crowd.
