Beck/Roger-Vasselin beat Bachinger/Moser in the final – Challenger of Granby 2011
A comprehensive victory for the third seeded pair of Karol Beck of Slovakia and Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France, in the final of the Nation al Bank’s Challenger of Granby on Saturday, as they defeated the second seeded German
duo of Matthias Bachinger and Frank Moser.
The contest took place on the hard courts of Granby, Canada, with Beck and Roger-Vasselin registering a convincing victory in the most authoritative manner to win the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour championship
title in the doubles category. The winning team wrapped up the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, in less than an hour to lift the crown, after they upset the top seeded Chinese duo in the semis.
The German contestants hung in the contest for barely 54 minutes before surrendering to their belligerent opponents in the second set. Bachinger and Moser appeared a total mismatch for the third seeded pair, who brutally manhandled
them throughout the contest to bag the title in the end. The Germans have been in tremendous form in the initial rounds of the tournament but failed to pose any serious resistance in the final showdown on Saturday.
Beck and Roger-Vasselin stringed their efforts together with great mastery to make a huge upset in the last match of the tournament by absolutely devastating the German duo. The winning pair used their dominant serve as the primary
weapon in the contest, delivering 67 per cent of it on target and bagging 9 out of 10 first serve points in the opening set. Beck and Roger-Vasselin were off to a ballistic start and launched a series of attacks right away to crack in two straight serve breaks
to lead 4-0 early.
The third seeded pair kept pressing their bewildered opponents in the opening set and a third break point conversion of the day sealed the first set for them at 6-1, giving them a 1-0 lead in the match. The Germans stuck to their
error-ridden game in the following set as well and failed to convert any break opportunity in the entire contest.
Beck and Roger-Vasselin carried on their winning momentum in the set number two as well and secured 14 out of 17 first serve points to inch closer to victory. One serve break in the second set proved sufficient for Beck and Roger-Vasselin
to conclude victory at 6-3, winning the Nation al Bank’s Challenger of Granby Doubles in the most authoritative manner.
