The Bayern Munich President wants a shift in formation as he sees the Boateng-Robben pair a misfit on the right hand side.
Franz Beckenbauer believes that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521 and Jerome Boateng should not be playing together on the right hand side. He feels that the duo is a misfit, and admitted that replacing Rafinha with Boateng would be a more viable option
for the Bavarian giants.
Beckenbauer was talking in the wake of his team’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, January 20. As a result, the Foals also completed a double over the Bavarian giants this season, having previously
dumped them at the Allianz-Arena last year in August.
Both Robben and Boateng made their way into the starting line-up, but failed to form a formidable partnership. Robben was seen frustrated throughout the game with the former Manchester City defender as he kept on passing the ball
on the left hand side. As a result, the Bavarian giants failed to respond to Gladbach’s heroics in the first half. Boateng was later replaced by Rafinha in the 66th minute, who seemed a perfect partner for the Dutch winger.
While talking to the sports channel, Sky90, the 66-year-old further insisted:
"The two of them really can't play together. Boateng always passes the ball in the other direction. This upsets Robben though as he always wants the ball."
Beckenbauer stressed that Boateng is a natural centre-back and therefore should play at his usual position. He wants Rafinha to partner Robben on the right hand side as the two seemed comfortable playing together during the clash
on Friday.
"They're not a good combination in my opinion. I think that Rafinha and Robben would suit each other much better," the President concluded.
As a result of Friday’s loss, Bayern lost their lead atop the league table, and currently find themselves level on points with Borussia Dortmund and Schalke. Lucien Favre’s men are also not far behind as only one point separates
the fourth placed Foals from the top spot.
Bayern’s next test will be against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881 at home on January 28, while Monchengladbach will travel away to Stuttgart on January 29.
