The Bayern Munich honorary president claimed that the midfielder will prove that he is worth the money the Bavarian giants paid for him.

Many have criticised Bayern Munich for over spending on the player however, Beckenbauer believes that the club has made the right choice. He feels that Reds had to strengthen the squad this summer and they would only do that by

The chief claimed that €40 million is a great investment considering the quality of the player. He added that the Spaniard is still young and has some great years ahead of him. He stressed that the club were in search of a quality
player in the defensive midfield all summer and now they have certainly got one.
“Why would you leave the money on the fixed deposit account, since you hardly get any interest for it anyway,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former Bavarian added that in the past, these huge amounts were only paid for strikers. However, it is very important nowadays to have a player of the quality of Martinez in the midfield which is why Bayern have acquired him.
“I am very curious about this purchase. It used to be that you only paid so much money for a striker, while defensive players were brought up from the youth system. Times have changed,” he concluded.
