The former Bayern Munich defender has shockingly suggested that he is oblivious of the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 winner, but remains optimistic that the Spanish international will be successful with Bayern.
Franz Beckenbauer has revealed that he does not know the Athletic Bilbao playmaker Javi http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468, but is sure that the young prodigy will settle at the Bavarian club quickly and will help them win some silverware. Bayern have not
won a major trophy for the last two years but won the DFL-Supercup on Sunday.
The Basque club player has been constantly linked with the Bavarian giants all summer, but his massive price tag was a problem for Die Roten. Nevertheless, Der FCB outfit’s chief Uli Hoeness has given the go ahead for the capture
of the youngster. Moreover, the 66-year-old stated that he has never seen the 23-year-old in action.
"Javi Martinez? I do not know him. I have never seen him play," Beckenbauer was quoted as saying in an interview.
Furthermore, the veteran manager conceded that he expects the versatile player to be top quality as Bayern only follow good players.
"But he must be good if Bayern are interested in signing him. He has to be a special player, or Bayern would not have been after him,” he mused.
Beckenbauer confirmed that by all means the holding midfielder is very costly but believes it does not really matter if it is €30 million or €40m, as the Allianz Arena side do not have a money problem and can pay over the odds.
"Of course, he is pretty expensive. But what's the difference really when you're talking about €30 million or €40m? Bayern can afford a transfer like this," he finally stated.
The talented player has a release clause of €40m with Bilbao. Die Bayern have reluctantly agreed to pay the hefty price to sign the highly-rated midfielder, after initially running themselves out of contention for the transfer.
Bayern Munich have come back to winning ways with the capture of the DFL-Supercup against the Bundesliga Champions Borussia Dortmund last week. They will start their league opener on August 25 against the newly promoted Greuther
Furth.
