  1. I think they should go back to the way they used to be. Because clay has a totallly different effect on balls.

  2. Not at all.  If you look at other recent French Open champions' (Ferrero, Moya, Kuerten) performance at Wimbledon, they do worse there than they do on hard courts.  I think these comments are only made because Nadal finally won them both.  Wimbledon is somewhat slower than it used to be, but it is still the fastest surface and comparing it to clay is really going too far.

If you're going to complain about the surface changes at the slams, I think the US and Australian opens are a much bigger problem.  Not only did US change their surface 3 times already, but now US and Australian opens have exactly the same surface, so I don't even see a point in having 2 separate slams since there's nothing to separate them.

  3. Yes. I wish they would get rid of that new green clay they installed. Now the ball is slower and players are forced to play from the baseline. I'd like to see it go back to the old grass so players will show some real skills like serving and volleying. I mean, why do we want to see them playing from the baseline? There's not variety or technique. Plus, we just had to watch that 2 weeks at Roland Garros.

  4. I agree that they are too slow and need to speed up a bit. But not the way it used to be. Rackets are more powerful than ever, so the courts have slowed down to compensate for that. There was nothing more boring than a typical wimbledon ace-a-thon between Ivanisevic and Rusedski. Rallies are good.

Now we can debate whether the faster courts would have suited Federer or Nadal. Normally you'd think Federer. But if he had trouble breaking Nadal's serve on this slow grass court, do you think he could have broken his serve on a faster court? Federer also does not serve and volley much, so the faster Wimbledon courts are not necessarily in his favor.

  5. I agree - Nadal only hit one serve and volley the entire match against Federer, a shocking statistic no?

  6. Nope.  I would be bored to death if I see two players making aces in the entire match.  It won't attract spectators.  I prefer rallies.  Players could have more variety to play the game rather than just ace, ace, ace.....throughout the entire match.  Clay courters and baseliners will have more chances to win Wimbledon rather than just occupied by few players. For instance, over the past decades, we tend to have less Wimbledon Champion (4 only) compare to French Open (7), Australian Open (6) & U.S. Open Champion (7).   The game would be more interesting if more player have chances.  Federer - Nadal thrilling match says it all.
