  1. Boris should be there because he is the Lord Mayor of London who are hosting the next Olympic Games. Beckham is probably Britain's best known sportsman and he shared the opening of the new Wembley Stadium with Tony Blair.

(as an aside - Interesting that this silly new Yahoo spell checker has just butted in to my answer to b*****k me for "oops" Wamibo has made two spelling mistakes. Beckham and Wembley. So perhaps not so well known as I thought??)

But I suppose they preferred having Beckham doing it to Brown, who is also in Beijing, even if Yahoo does know how to spell that swear word..

  2. It's a little daft considering that he left the country:

Come to London in 2012. Beckham might!

  3. Beckham had a lot to do with Britain's bid for the games and is recognized internationally so I can see the logic in that but I don't know which Boris you mean if its Boris Becker why would he be there.

Borat would be a better choice after all he has travelled to Kazakhstan and USA.

  4. What has Beckham got to do with the olympics?

  5. Having watched Boris' 'Who Do You Think You Are' genealogy programme this week, it should be interesting watching to see what the Chinese make of a man whose sole vocab seems to consist of the following phrases-

    'Fossicking'

'Well Done, Well Done, Well Done..'

I doubt the other towering intellect will prove much better.I'm not keen on a man who plucks his eyebrows representing us.

Personally I'd have sent Hattie Jacques ;-)

  6. Two "head the balls."

  7. Well between them they almost have a below average IQ

  8. what is beckham doing there if he doesn't play for the olympic football? it's just because he's rich. Atleast Boris actually has something to do with London - Beckham hasn't been for nearly a year

  9. They're the two most obvious candidates...

Too bad Beckham has abandoned his country of birth to live in LA and raise his kids there - obviously he doesn't think much of Britain.

Boris - I'm picturing his head in flames should he stand too near the Olympic flame.

  10. I have no problem with it at all I like them both, they both are very passionate about sport, which is a good example for future sports people.
