Beckham says Tottenham move not about money
David Beckham has accepted a pay cut in the hopes of sealing his loan move to Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.
Beckham’s wages had been a stumbling block for Spurs, who refuse to budge on their wage structure just to accommodate the football icon. However, Beckham’s willingness to accept a pay cut has hugely boosted his chances of playing for the London club.
The 35-year-old is used to being paid 120,000 pounds a week at LA Galaxy. Spurs are offering the player no more that 65,000 pounds per week. Beckham has proved that his move is not motivated by greed by agreeing to the salary offered by Tottenham.
The former England captain underwent a medical on Monday and has already been subjected to a fitness test at Tottenham’s training ground in Essex.
Now all that’s left to finalize the transfer is for Spurs and LA Galaxy to come to an agreement on the duration of the loan move. Galaxy are tempted to recall their star player in the middle of February to participate in pre-season matches. Tottenham though,
are insisting that Beckham should be allowed to remain at White Hart Lane until the start of the MLS season in March.
An insider from the London club said, “It's not about insuring Beckham while he is in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 and it's definitely not about image rights either. It is now purely a question of how long Galaxy will let him stay. Spurs will go ahead with the loan if they get
the extra month.”
Harry Redknapp has already stated that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermaine-Jenas-c18362 agrees with his manager, saying, “Even if it is only for a few months, he will bring great experience to the
squad. He has won titles everywhere he has been. That combined with his quality will be fantastic for us.”
David Beckham’s return to the Barclays Premier League is all but certain now. We will see if the former England captain can make the same impact for Tottenham as he did with Manchester United almost eight years ago.
