http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Beckham-c10432 has gone on to confirm that he is still going to be a part of the London Olympics 2012, despite being snubbed from the Great Britain football team.
Beckham was believed to be in line to be a part of the Great Britain squad, but Stuart Pearce went on to leave out the midfielder, when he released his final squad list.
The manager insisted that the only reason he made the decision to leave out Beckham, was because he wanted to include some defensive cover in the squad and hence he opted to give http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Micah-Richards-c25259 a spot in the team, ahead of Beckham.
This came as rather surprising news to most, considering how Beckham was one of the people responsible for the Olympics to come to London.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 captain isn’t holding any grudges and has admitted that he is quite thankful to Sebastian Coe, who is the chairman of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, since he has given the midfielder a chance to be a part of the event.
When talking about the Olympics and his involvement in the whole affair of getting the games to London, Beckham is quoted to have said: "To be involved in the bid team that got the Olympics to London is something I feel very proud about.”
"[I will have] some kind of role in the opening ceremony which I am honoured to be involved in because obviously I was involved in the start of this process seven years ago.”
"I'm privileged to still be involved in this. I was involved seven years ago [in bringing the Games to London] and Seb [Coe] has kept me involved since then. I feel very honoured with that.
"At the time I said it felt a bit strange to be involved in an Olympic bid team, because I'd never performed in the Olympics or been an Olympian. So to be asked to be part of that bid team, I was very honoured.”
Despite not making the football team, it seems like Beckham’s fans will get to meet the Golden Boy of English football at the Olympics after all.
