Beckie Dooley pockets Women’s 50m breaststroke gold – 2013 NZ Open Championships
Beckie Dooley of Jasi pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke on third day of the 2013 NZ Open Championships in Westwave Aquatic Centre, Auckland, on Tuesday, March 19.
The 22-year-old Dooley experienced strong competition from her closest competitor throughout the race and hit the wall for first position. With her astonishing pace, Dooley remained lucky enough to edge her toughest competitor and secured the title.
With her astonishing pace, she was only an inch ahead of her strongest swimmer and posted a time of 33.26 seconds for gold medal.
The gold medallist was followed by Natasha Lloyd of North Canterbury Swim Club, who stayed just 0.01 seconds away from her toughest challenger and touched the wall with the timing of 33.27 seconds.
The second best finisher was traced by Abbie Johnston of AquaGym, who was 0.05 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing wall with the timing of 33.32 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Emily McGill of Capital Swim Club, who stayed 0.16 seconds behind and touched the wall with the timing of 33.48 seconds.
Fifth position of the swim was obtained by Dayna Kiekebosch of Fairfield Swimming Club, who was 0.55 seconds behind and clocked a time of 33.93 seconds.
Subsequently, Kiekebosch stayed 0.33 seconds faster from Jane Ip of West Auckland Aquatics, who was unable to upset her preceding swimmer over the finishing end and concluded her race in sixth place. Ip tried hard to improve her pace in the second half of
the event but failed to do so and ended her swim in a time of 34.26 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the race was obtained by Katie Kenneally of Neptune Swimming Club, who suffered a deficit of only 0.16 seconds and clocked an effort of 34.41 seconds.
Last position of the event was obtained by Kendall Reidy of Central Hawkes Bay, who hit the wall with the timing of 34.43 seconds.
In addition, Dooley expressed happiness over her victory after the race whereas the position holders were called upon the victory stand for medals at the prize distribution ceremony of the event.
