Becky Brewerton attributes solid putting to third-place finish in Dubai
It took Welsh Becky Brewerton some solid putting to boost her position in the final round of Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, but the star golfer thinks she could have done even better in final
Tour battle and the entire 2012 season.
“Just the putts to be honest. Yesterday I hit it just as well, hit as many shots in close many only made four birdies,” Brewerton said at the end of the fourth round that saw her shoot a decisive
65 on Saturday.
Brewerton was not among the top-ranked LET (Ladies European Tour) stars in the Dubai Masters 2012. However, her performance in the last two rounds was solid enough to quickly put her in the
spotlight.
The Welsh star posted an overall 276 to take a share of the third position along with German Caroline Masson.
What gripped the spectators’ attention was that Brewerton jumped from 20th to third in the final round.
Her performance in the third and fourth round showed that she was not an underrated player in any way, shape or form. But she was seen struggling with her sore in the first two rounds.
Posting a 70 in the first round on Wednesday did not make for a promising start. To further dent her confidence, the LET titan scored a 73 on Thursday.
Brewerton managed to pull off a far better show on third day as she shot a 68, regaining her confidence. She rattled off four birdies and avoided bogeys.
Still, the Welsh golfer needed a solid score in the fourth round to cross the top-20 players. She performed cautiously Saturday and managed to fire a magical 65 to take the third position.
Speaking of her performance on the last day, Brewerton said that she just focused on her nerve, which proved a recipe for cautious performance. She went on to say that she made a couple of
mistakes, but could not have done any better, given her slow start on the first day.
“Today I played really well and it was the putting that was the difference. I lipped a few out yesterday but you have to stay patient around here, the greens are quite hard to read. Yeah,
everything just fell in”.
