Becky Hammon, Crystal Langhorne, Asjha Jones: Top WNBA players from July 26 games – Part 1
Five games took place in Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) on Tuesday, July 26, 2011. Let us look at some of the noticeable performances that dominated the night:
San Antonio Silver Stars vs. Washington Mystics
Becky Hammon
Becky Hammon provided an all-around presence with a game-high 22 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists in San Antonio Silver Stars’ 73-67 victory over Washington Mystics at Verizon Center. Hammon, a six-time All-Star,
scored 13 of her points in the first half as Silver Star maintained their hold at halftime. The 34-year-old guard shot 6 for 13 from the field, including 3 for 6 from three-point range, and a perfect 7 for 7 from free throw line.
Jia Perkins
San Antonio’s guard Jia Perkins came off the bench with 10 points in the victory. She finished the game on a 5 for 9 shooting from the field.
Crystal Langhorne
Crystal Langhorne did the best to save the already slumping Mystics from sliding down to their second consecutive loss, but even her 19 points could not add the spark, that the team needed. Langhorne, the leading scorer and rebounder
of the league, also contributed seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks. The forward centre hit 6 for 8 from the floor and pinned 7 of 8 free throws.
Marissa Coleman
The Mystics’ guard forward Marissa Coleman produced 14 points, pinning 3 of 6 free throws in 30 plus minutes of action. The player also pulled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists in Washington’s loss.
Connecticut Sun vs. Chicago Sky
Asjha Jones
Asjha Jones scored team best 22 points in Connecticut Sun’s 77-66 victory over Chicago Sky at Allstate Arena. The forward also grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots in more than 29 minutes of action. Jones notched 7 of 7 free
throws that came her way.
Tina Charles
Tina Charles produced an excellent performance against Chicago as she recorded a terrific double-double with a game-high 15 rebounds and 21 points. Charles, the WNBA Rookie of the Year 2010, scored 11 of her points in the first
half of the game. The 22-year-old centre also blocked three shots in 33 plus minutes. She finished with a fantastic 10 for 17 shooting from the field.
Epiphanny Prince
Chicago’s guard Epiphanny Prince tallied a team high 16 points hitting 5 of 12 shooting from the field in 32 plus minutes of action in the defeat. The player pinned 3 of 6 free throws on the night.
Sylvia Fowles
The league’s leading scorer, Sylvia Fowles was another bright spot in Sky’s defeat. Fowles racked up 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the game. The player shot 5 for 11 from the floor and 4 for 4 from the line. Chicago’s centre
pinned 4 of 4 free throws.
