Becky Morgan leads the UniCredit Ladies German Open
Becky Morgan is leading the UniCredit Ladies German Open after posting a seven under par in the opening round at Golf Park Gut Hausern. Morgan is looking for her first professional victory and is in a good position as she has secured a one-stroke lead. Morgan,
having played on the ladies European tour since 11 years, gave an amazing bogey free round on a dry course, permitting fairly low scores.
The Welsh player started out on the back nine and didn’t wait long to make her first birdie on the 13th hole. Making another birdie on the fifteenth hole, Morgan really set the golf course on fire as she made back to back birdies on the seventeenth
and eighteenth hole. Making the turn at four under, Morgan, birdied the second hole. Making a birdie on the fifth and sixth hole, the player finished the day at seven under par overall.
"It was probably one of the best rounds I've had. I didn't make any bogeys. I hit 16 greens and the two I missed: I chipped in on one and had a pretty easy putt for the other one, so it was stress-free golf. It was a perfect day. We didn't have much wind,"
Morgan said. "There are quite a few birdie chances out here. The par-fives are reachable and you have some short irons into some of the par fours."
Being the runner up at the 2001 French Open in her first year on tour, Morgan said the day was very ‘score-able.’ The player said that she only missed two greens and it was a nice day. The player also tied for second at the 2004 Chick-fil-A Charity Championship
on the American LPGA circuit.
Seeing how Morgan is playing the event for the first time, her performance
speaks volumes about the player. She said that she really likes Golf Park Gut Hausern golf course and seeing how there are three rounds remaining, she has high hopes. Changing her coach in December, Morgan is now under the guidance of Massimo Scarpa.
All in the all, the first round of the Ladies German Open went well leaving the ladies enthusiastic about tomorrow.
