I'm a freshment in High School, and I'm looking forward to become a fighter Pilot. My GPA is 4.0 and I've not join any sport team and leadership club or anything. So what is my chance? I know I'm a freshment but i just want to be more prepared for the Air Force Academy.

  1. You have to be pyisicly fit and after Air Force Academy then you have 1.5 years of flight training. You also could be waiting a bit becaues they have to find you a jet to fly in. If it was the Navy you could be waiting up to 4 years after training befor you get to touch a no training jet. I would suggest getting your private pilots certificate to help when it comes to the MFAST. I did that to help when it comes to acceptance.

  2. First, great that you are looking into serving your country.  Here's a rough idea of the selection program:

1- Grades, so far so good for you, academics are a large part of your selection

2- Extra-curricular activities that show leadership/initiative.  Sorry but you've GOT to involved in something; realize you'll be expected to participate in sports while at the academy.  Community involvement counts here as well.

3- You'll need a recommendation from your congressman/woman.  Each district gets so many slots, and even with the war going on competition is stiff.  You'll have to make an appointment, interview etc. Your guidance counselors should be able to help.

4-  For a pilot slot you also need to pass that selection process.  Working on a private pilot's license goes a HUGE way to making that happen.  Obviously passing the flight physical is the largest hurdle.

Since you're a freshman you've got another three years to prep.  Good luck, and be persistent.
