  1. I don't think you can work ANYWHERE in CA under the age of 16 unless it's a family business.

  2. Hello.  Many pools in California will hire Lifeguards as young as 15 years old.  15 years old is the minimum age for most Lifeguard Certification classes, in particular American Red Cross and Ellis & Associates.  Swimming Instructor certification is generally available once you turn 17, though some places will hire people to teach swimming without that certification.  Personally, I wouldn't work for the sorts of places that do that, but that's your choice.

Anyway, I just looked at the City of Mission Viejo website and the Lifeguard Job announcement, and they will hire persons as Lifeguards with a minimum age of 15 1/2.  http://cityofmissionviejo.org/  Look under Parks & Recreation, then Job Opportunities.

Call the Orange County American Red Cross or the City of Mission Viejo (or other cities) Parks and Recreation departments to find out about certification classes.  Its a little late to be doing this now, as many classes started as early as February and March and April are usually the peak months for training.  May and June should have classes as well, but they fill up very quickly so better get on it!
