What changes can I make in my life to become more environmentally aware? I am phasing out meat already. I thought maybe taking cloth bags to the grocery store instead of plastic-does anyone have ideas like where to get bags for that? I am a very poor student right now and don't have a lot of money, so please have the suggestions be both environmentally friendly and cheap! I think if done in the right way it would be cheaper to be more environmentally friendly!

here are some ideas I bet you have not thought of...

    mostly.. dont have kids...

  2. Here are a list of things you can do...

    *************

    Use:

-cloth bags(can buy in cheap sales) ...not plastic bags

-Reuse and recycle ... dont keep on throwing

    ************

You can also do these to help the earth:

-avoid using too much plastic and styrofoam, they'll only add

up to the garbage we throw everyday. Plus never burn them

or it would be one of the causes in worsening air pollution.

    -segregate your garbage (biodegradeable which

decomposes, nonbiodegradable, which do not decompose

and recyclables such as bottles, newspapers, etc which you

can sell to junk shops so you'll have extra money)

    ******************************

    I hope I helped!

  4. Hey! I'm glad you are striving to be more envrionmentally friendly! I am a student too and we have done 6months worth of research on saving the environment :)

Well, in Singapore, we can buy such bags in the grocery stores at 0.9SGD it's very cheap. You can make minor changes to your daily life to be more environmentally friendly, CHEAP and ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY!

    Basic examples are :

    1) Using both sides of the paper

    2) Taking showers instead of baths

    3) Turning off the lights when you leave a room.

    4) When you are using an air-conditioner, turn it on to 25 degress celcius to maximise the electricity used and minimize energy consumption.

    5) Draw the curtains to make your room cooler.

    6) Do not leave your television or computer on in STANDBY mode as it is just a waste of energy.

Some examples that require a little investment are

    7) Switching to inverter-type air-conditioners

    8) Purchase energy-saving light bulbs (these cost the same as normal ones but last longer)

    9) Double glazing your windows either to keep heat out on hot days or insulate the room in the winter.

    10) Using non-pure pulp tissue paper
