Question:

Becoming Vegetarian/Vegan??

Bare with me here guysss.....

I am not a vegetarian now, and it never crossed my mind until just recently. My friend is a vegetarian because she doesn't like the whole, eating a once living animal......ect. I was considering it because of the envrionmental reasons. **15% of our "green house gases" comes from the production of livestock** Plus people who eat only or mainly producers are proven to live longer.

I think it would be wonderful to be a vegan, but I think that giving up meat would be tough, let alone things like cheese, and milk, and yogurt...ect.

So becoming a vegetarian seemed like a good balance. Should I just abruptly stop eating meats, or what? What's the best way to go about it? What are some good meal options for vegans or vegetarians?

  1. Being vegetarian is only unhealthy if you go about it the wrong way. That said, you can't live off chips and ice cream. You can slowly ease into it, or just stop altogether, whatever floats your boat. I stopped all together. But if you want to do it gradually, I would cut out red meat first, which is very unhealthy for you, and then chicken, and then fish. It really depends on whether you think you'll have meat cravings. I didn't find it hard to completely nix meat at once, but you might. Here's a really good website for vegans and vegetarians.

This site has a ton of great meal options. I hope this helps!

  2. The way I did it was I stopped eating all meats at once. You could do that, but it's a lot harder. The recommended method is to phase out meats a little at a time. First red meats, then poultry, then seafood, etc.

There are a lot of websites online dedicated to vegetarian recipes. One that I've visited in the past is vegkitchen.com. It's filled with recipes for all sorts of occasions.

    Good luck!

  3. I was a vegetarian for over 8 years... and just recently started eating meat again. I can tell you from personal experience that becoming a vegetarian was the WORST decision i ever made. I didn't realize how tired and unhealthy I became. Make sure you check your blood type, as Type-O's really need consistent meat in their diets. If you want to be "environmentally sound", just cut back on your red meat consumption and buy "free-range" organic meats from a local meat market. Don't let your friends influence what YOU do. Humans were meant to consume meat... And if you DO decide to become a vegetarian, at least eat fish. Natural animal proteins are important.
