Becoming Vegeterian?

i want to become vegetarian...

started yesterday. so i want some good stuff i can cook or buy? recipes and what not..

so and if ur vegetarian could u explain what type.

    i am an ovo-lacto vegetarian working on giving up the ovo part, lol.  

    here are some tips for food to cook and buy:

    look east! asian, middle eastern, and indian cuisine all have a ton of options that are meat free....try falafel, cashew curry, etc.  

    italian food is a great staple too, because there are endless combinations of sauces, pastas, and veggies that can make a quick, delicious meal.

    almost anything can be made vegetarian....just substitute beans or veggies where you would have had meat! for example, instead of having ground beef tacos, have bean burritos or veggie fajitas.  just as delicious, but without the cruelty.

    try keeping some meat substitutes in your freezer.  companies like boca and morningstar farms make some great impersonators that you can build a meal around if you're in a hurry or get a meat craving.

    try buying as many fresh ingredients as possible.  if you use fresh ingredients you won't have to worry so much about whether or not meat products were used in making that food.

    here are some meal ideas to get you started:

    veggie fajitas

    red beans and rice

    falafel

    spinach lasagna

    veggie stir fry

    eggplant parmesan

    stuffed peppers

    vegetable soup

    .........and those are just a few ideas! try visiting some veg cooking websites.  you'll be shocked at how many options you have.  here are a couple of good ones: www.theveggietable.com and www.goveg.com.

    stay motivated! keep photos of animals in factory farms in places where you'll see them a couple of times a day....or print out quotes that you find inspiring.  it will help you stay strong.  the first couple of months are the toughest!

    get comfortable with reading labels.  there are a lot of hidden ingredients that are animal products in things you would never expect, like jello, cheese, and frosted cereals.  here is a link to a list of them: http://www.vegfamily.com/lists/animal-in...

  4. veg- burgers are amazing and you can find them at your local wal-mart or this website below is great for finding what your craving

  5. If you are serious about becoming a vegetarian you also need to look into supplements because it is important that you are getting all of the nutrients that you will be missing. Vitamin Methyl B12 will be important, you can find it at Swansons Vitamins online in lozenges which are easier to absorb by Jarrow, get the 5000mcg and take 2 a day.
