so i am 17 right now, and about ten hours away from getting my private pilot license. what i really want to do is instruct to put myself through college. so... if i had my private pilot license, how many more hours is it before i could get my CFI? i know i need to go through instrument, commercial, etc. Also, what would the approximate pricetag be on a CFI rating?

Finally, any corporate pilots out there? what is the average salary for a first-year pilot, how many hours is the average, and what are the pros and cons to being a corporate pilot?

Thanks a lot.

  1. CFIIing is a hard way to make a living unless you have a speciality (sea planes, Lear jets, etc). The average CFI will either work independant (maybe $40/hr about 2-3 hours a week) or work for a flight school (about $8/hr about 40-50 hours a week). Its not an easy way to make a living and most flight school CFIs are just happy to get the free fligth time. I'll tell you this though, you'll learn an amazing amount of stuff working as a CFI. A good school will require you to be on the top of your game at all times. BTW: Don't expect to be able to sit and eat at the same time ;)
