Question:

Becoming a Citizen of Vietnam?

I am doing a report on Vietnam in class. We not only have to find out basic information that visitors would want to know but we also must find out information about becoming a citizen of Vietnam if one wishes to do so. I have not been able to find any reliable information, does anybody have any information that would be useful in this? That includes becoming a citizen, documents needed, buying or renting property, setting up utilities, phone, and television in the house, etc.

If anybody can assist me with my report that would be great!

  1. You cannot wish to become a citizen of Vietnam, you either are one or you are not.

The law on buying property depends on weather you are a citizen or not.your question does not make much sense, having set up house here as a none citizen and having sold houses to citizens i could maybe offer you more help if you re-write your question.

  2. If you can proof that you have vietnamese blood ( ie your paternal/maternal relatives are from vietnam ), this would be easier for you to get citizenship..However, most likely they will give you permanent residence status. Law is definitely not clear on this ( as usual for Vietnam ). You can consult local vietnamese lawyer where they will be able to advise you in detail. You will not be able to get information from website on this cause these things are not official stated. Most of the time, you will need to pay $$$$ but even so, this does not guarantee you will still get it if you meet up with a crook lawyer. Good luck.
