Question:

Becoming a Skater?

by  |  earlier

I think it would be fun to be a skater, ice skating and/or regular skating.

What should I do to become one?

Don't they have to have good balance?

Like; before I actually go on the rink, what should I be practicing at first?

A question for balance, what can I do to have more balance?

Standing on one leg for awhile?

Thank you so much if you answer these questions!

You can add any details too, if you want, about skating.

Thanks, again.

  1. well, first i suggest to become a figure/ice skater!! thats my only favorite sport! (the rest i just like.) anyway, ice skating rocks!  k, you'll need your own pair of figure skates when you start taking your lessons seriously and get comitted to this sport! i got my pair of figure skates when i turned 12, 3 months ago from my pro-shop! and they are still nice and clean! anyway, yes pro. figure skaters that don't quit and stay focussed with their coaches and stuff can really improve their balance! and if you want to be really good at the sport, don't just go once and a while for fun, you really have to take lessons and stay in it, to get all the things you want to acheive! i've been doing figure skating for 7 months and i still love and enjoy it! and yes everyone falls once and a while in this sport, but thats just how you learn to fix your mistake! and i can see your really looking forward to trying to do the camel spiral (the glide where you lift your one leg up!) well all you have to do to reach that level is stay focussed and comitted even if the going gets tough! because figure/ice skating is no joke! roller/inline skating maybe a lot easier to do and you can teach yourself on those, but dealing with the ice is-a-whole-different-story!!!! but its really fun and cool! i take my BETA (its a level in figure skating. theres pre-alpha, alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and on to the freestyles!) every saturday! i love it! i have all my skating equipment and everything! and i hope you ALSO choose this to be your loving sport! good luck!

  2. yea stand on one leg alot, on ice too. we need balance n flexibility, alot of ppl have balance, not the flexibility though. stretch for 30 min b4 u go to bed everyday.

  3. well you should take beginners lessons and then a level two lesson at a locale rink. Hope I helped!

  4. You should look into taking lessons at your local skating rink. You will probably be put into a beginner class with a bunch of small children if you never skated before. But don't worry if you want to get good you have to start somewhere right lol!

I'm starting skating I'm pretty unbalanced. It doesn't exactly matter, because once you get the hang of it you don't fall unless you are starting a new spin or trying to land your axle or doing a spiral. Just keep telling yourself that you will get better because you will! And you have to work hard at it and never give up!

Put on socks and slide around on a waxed wooden floor. Try jumping and sliding around. It may sound stupid but it helps!

Or go during free skate times... It's great practice.

    Some More Details:

It is never too late to start!

Most lessons are half an hour to an hour and a half long.

Wear a tee shirt, gloves, a jacket or hoodie, sweats or jeans, skates and a butt pad when you're skating.

ALWAYS wear your hair up and take off your jewelry because hair and necklaces can get in the way.

    Use skate guards!

  5. Hey! I LOVE SKATING!!! It is my favorite sport in the entire world and NOTHING could take me away from it! I have been skating for nine years and I am 12. First, You need to get your own pair of skates. I reccomend Reidells for beginners, You can usually get them at your rink's pro- shop. Then you will need to get blade guards. You should put them on every time you walk off of the ice ( so your blades don't get ruined ) You will also need soakers and a towel. After you wipe your skates off with the towel, you should put the soakers on.

(don't put the blade guards back on because it will make them rust )   Then you will need to sign up for the Basic Skills Prograam at your rink. If it doesn't work for you, than you can contact one of the coaches at your rink and ask if they have time to give you lessons on public sessions. You don't need to buy a skate bag quite yet, because you can just use and old sleepover bag or duffel or suitcase.!!!!!

Hope that this helps!! Hope That you become a great skater!!!
