Hello, I'm a current teenage living in American.

I am also g*y, this is relevant because I don't fell safe with my parents. I have had threats such a these, " I will kill you", this was a direct statement. You see I was adopted as a child, and the sexual abused as a young child in my new family. I have been though so much, and I just want to make a fresh start. My question is can I surrendering American Citizenship, and take on Canadian Citizenship before becoming 18?

  1. At 14? You'd need to be legally emancipated from your family (going through the courts). Then you would need an passport to get to Canada. You'd need to have a visa for you to be able to stay there legally for the three years before you could get citizenship (the visa might be a bit difficult since you have no major skills that would be short of at that age, no support, income, and would have to rely on public funds). You would be able to apply for citizenship once you're over the age of 18 and have lived in Canada for at least 3 years.

"A person who is a permanent resident may apply for Canadian citizenship by naturalization (grant) after three years resident in Canada.

The requirements in full are that the person:

is aged 18 years or over

    is a permanent resident

has lived in Canada for a total of three years out of the four years preceding the application for citizenship

knows about Canada (a test is required as part of the application process, but only if the applicant is between 18 and 54 years of age)

knows the rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizenship

    is of good character

is not a war criminal "

You might have better luck relocated interstate. America is such a big country.
