Is this possible? Or will I need to have a bachelors in something practical, like some sort of math or science?

  1. All you actually need is a basic associates in anything to become an officer in the military. But to answer your question, yes a bachelors in music will be fine! Theres two ways to become an officer. ROTC which is becoming an officer while in college. Personally I thing thats the easiest way. And the theres OCS school where you attend a training program for cadets to become officers. But for more information just pick up the phone and call the nearest recruiter in your area. Best of luck to you. And God bless the Military!

  2. I actually knew someone who had a Bachelor's in Music.  she was an Information Warfare Officer in the Navy and was commissioned via the BDCP and OCS.  This was 8 years ago.  It may be much more difficult now at least in the Navy.

  3. Yes, you are eligible to become an officer in the US military.  Given your given interest in music, you could possible consider joining the Army band as a conductor (officer/ warrent officer).  Check with a recruiter though, as you will still need additional training, since you didn't go through ROTC.

  4. The Army (or Navy or USAF or USMC) will train you in whatever specific skills they need you to do.

The purpose of requiring ROTC graduates to have a bachelors degree (in ANYTHING from a properly accredited source) is that just getting the degree shows that you can learn almost anything to a reasonable degree of mastery in a very short time.

  5. You can have a bachelors in doing in laundry (if it exists). Honestly, your major doesn't matter one bit.
