I would love to become a fighter jet pilot in the Navy, but I was curious on what I need to do in order to archive my dream.

I am planning on doing the BA program to pay for my college... But if I want to become a pilot, what courses should I be taking?

Thank you very much!

  1. Mrsjvb is WRONG regarding not being able to get a commission or aviation without calculus or physics... To get a commission what you need is a Bachelors degree from an accredited university and then complete an officer's training course (AOCS, OCS, etc).

One of my Commanding Officers had his BA in Literature and I flew with numerous pilots with degrees in History, Art, Agriculture, Business, Economics, etc.

It is GOOD to have a strong math and physics background... you'll need it in training.

Go to this website to get official information: http://www.navy.com/action/careers/offic...

  2. you really need a BS to be competitive.. but regardless, a 3.5 or better GPA with as MUCH Math and Hard science as you can get.. Especially Calc and Calc Based physics.  if you don't have those, you won't be offered a commission.

and look into NROTC.  its a major help especially if you get one of the 2.3 or 4 year scholarships.

Just be aware: getting commissioned is one thing.  getting AVIATION is harder..and getting Jets.. even MORE so.  about half of the people, who apply for aviation get accepted.  about half of THEM actually make it all the way through..and about half of THEM get their first choice of aircraft.

  3. Look into NROTC. If you join, you become a commissioned officer and you can then go to flight school in pensocola. Your major won't matter if you do NROTC. Also, see if you can get your private pilot's license.

  4. have very good eye sight at least good enough for you to pass the dep perception test and also you must be an officer to fly jets  and to become an officer you must have at least at bachelors degree so do your ba program and you should be alright good luck!
