Question:

Becoming a prison guard?

So I went to take the entrance exam for becoming a prison guard and I passed it and I would love to work as one. Once you become one do they do anything such as polygraph check ups to check if you have been doing drugs or any of that sort? The thing is I love to go to raves and well, you get the deal what goes on at those. Would I have to give that up? I live in California.

  1. further along in the hiring process you will have to give a polygraph and a urine sample. but if you are hired, they will perform random drug tests on all employees. California law enforcement is pretty relaxed about past drug use, but if its been within 6 months you can pretty much forget about it.

my advice, and i mean no offense by this but to work in detentions or law enforcement you need to be grown up. that means you cannot go to raves and house parties like you did in high school and college. once you grow up you will realize whats more important, a good time or a long-meaningful career with A LOT of perks.

  2. Don't do it...working as a state CO sucks.  Try to go for a county Sheriff's Office...you will have much more opportunity to advance in your career.

  3. Oh yes they do. I recently applied and am waiting for my Exam date. They are very invasive about their screening process, you can expect to have several drug screens, polygraphs, and meetings with psychologists to make sure you are cut out for that line of work. I would be very careful since in some states, a positive drug test bans you from ever applying in that respective state for public service.

Thanks for the thumbs down....truth hurts, I know.

  4. Background investigation will be conducted and hope that your offenses will be considered negligible.

  5. Yes yes yes and again YES

You would have to give up the raves, the drugs, anything illegal.  They do polygraph and back ground checks.  The process of being a prison guard is the same as being a patrol officer.

Only answer you need is give up anything and everything illegal because otherwise it would disqualify you as a candidate for the position.  Due to the recent use you may already be disqualified.
