Hi I need help fast. Me and my daughter's father is splitting up after 10 yrs together. My daughter doesn't exactly know what is going on she is just begging we don't move out, and that we stay together. She is 8 and is going to be crushed. My heart aches for her, but I cant change the situation. I also have a 12 yr old boy who is rdy to move cause he is tired of the fighting. I need help. How do I handle this. I feel so lost and alone. I am sitting here crying for my loss, but more for my daughter.

  1. First of all, what think about what would be best for her. If he is a good parent, just not a good spouse, try considering having her live with him and you being the visiting parent. What would be easiest for you?

Explain to your daughter that you and daddy just aren't getting along these days. Let her know that you both love her, but it just wont be together. Make sure you tell her that she will be able to see her daddy. Give her the option of who she would prefer to live with (if the situation is safe). Tell her its not her fault.

Most of all, never let her hear or see your hard feelings toward her dad. That just makes it worse.

I wish you all the best luck.

  2. Explain to your daughter that, you and her father just want to be friends, and he is going to buy his own house where you can visit. Also explain that you both love each other but just as good friends.

    Hope I Helped!

  3. You tell her that mommy and daddy have decided that they don't want to live together anymore but that you both love her very much and want her to be happy and that if she ever has any questions or any suggestions on how she wants things to work that she can have her input be heard, and also that she can see both of you whenever wanted.
