Question:

Becoming an English teacher with my Qualifications?

Hey,

I'm just wondering, is it possible, with the right teacher training of course, to become an English teacher if I have a full Masters in Creative Writing?

I would also have a full BSc Honors Degree in Architectural Technology, and whilst this is good, and what I want to do for the time being, I would really like to go into teaching English at a later point of my life. Would this be possible?

Thanks for your time! xx

  1. Check with your state's certification agency. In Texas that would be SBEC I believe. Or check with a local school administrator. In Texas they have or recently had a program for people with a university degree to move into teaching. It may be as simple as taking a certification test or you may need some professional development classes. In many cases these can be taken while you have already started teaching. In Texas the board of trustees has the power to hire as a teacher anyone they find to be qualified. Of course certified teachers are preferred and those not certified should enter a program such as I TEACH TEXAS with a plan to become highly qualified and get certification.

Chances are you could get a job teaching right now. Junior colleges in Texas can hire those with a masters degree to teach.

P> S> We will hire from anywhere! Especially math, science and foriegn language. All critical shortage areas.

I still say ask a local school administrator. It is their job to know who they can hire.
