Question:

Becoming an OB/GYN, RE, or Labor & Delivery Nurse?

After spending nearly a year TTC #1, and still going through the emotions of it all, I have developed a soft spot in my heart for others who are dealing with similar situations. And I have recently considered switching careers in order to bring assistance to people who are dealing with these same struggles, because I know what it's like to go through it. I have done some research as to what schooling and training I would need to be an OB/GYN and then to go into being an RE, but I would like more information about what others have done to become those things and what your job is like. And I'd also like any information at all about working in the labor & delivery unit in a hospital.

I am also open to the idea of working in those areas, although not specifically with those jobs. Does anyone have any ideas or insight about it?

P.S. I am currently 23 years old. I just graduated last year with a bachelor's degree in psychology. So I am looking at where to go from here. Any information is helpful in deciding if this is really the path I want to take. Thanks :-)

  1. You should follow your dream and passion. It is a 'calling'. Put your passion / gift into your job and you will definitely be a great source of comfort to those in need of your comfort. Because you've gone through it, you will be able to identify with their pain and needs. Who better to understand them and ease their pain than someone who has experienced it himself/herself?

I wish you all the best.

  2. designed a webpage for new nurses coming to the ED. It illustrates what a nurse would do in particular situations (for ex. chest pain.)  I was a new grad with no experience upon moving to the US. Now i'm making 125,000/year in san francisco. check it out, and leave a comment.
