I want to become a vegetarian, but I don't know if I should be a Lacto-Pollo-Vegetarian, or just a vegetarian. I swear to my life, I CANNOT live without milk, so I was wondering if I should just be a Lacto-vegetarian, or if I should still eat chicken, or what. Can I please have some easy vegetarian recipes? And can I gave some info on being a lacto-vegetarian and a pollo-vegetarian? THANKS, EVERYONE!!!!

  1. I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian. I have been one for 10 years. Personally, eating chicken ultimately defeats my purpose for being a vegetarian (it does not feel right for me to eat something that was once a living, breathing creature). So before you decide that, what is your reason for wanting to become one?

Being a vegetarian makes it much harder to eat out and virtually forsakes fast-food. I haven't memorized any recipes off-hand, however, noodles and rice dishes are very nice (learn to love tofu). For microwaveable meals when you don't want to cook, you can't go better then the Amy's brand (www.amyskitchen.com).

Beware of some soups, beef or chicken stock is often prevalent. Also, Jell-o, marshmallows, and most "gummi" products have a non-vegetarian ingrediant called gelatin.

Best of luck, it ain't easy.

Oh yes, forgot. Fake meat is a blessing, make use of it.

  2. I don't know what a lacto-pollo vegetarian is.. all i know is a vegetarian does not eat chicken. Most evegetarians become one because they care about animals so why would they still eat chicken?!  Every single recipe is vegetarian, you just take out the meat and swap it for a quorn style product. :) or just miss out the meat altogether. x

  3. First off: Me and the furry little animals of the world want to thank you for your decision to become a vegetarian! You are doing such a wonderful and beautiful thing! Also giving up meat just might be one of healthiest things you could ever do!

I'm quite like you! I wouldn't be able to give up dairy products (making me a vegan) so I just stuck to being vegetarian (no meat of any kind!) It's not nearly as hard as it seems to give-up eating the flesh of an innocent animal. (You sound like the kind of person that really cares about all the creatures on this earth, and so kicking a meat habit should be a cinch for you too!)

What truly got me was watching some of the footage on the PETA website (believe me, you don't want to be a pollo-vegetarin knowing what those poor chickens go through!)  As far as recipes go, there are a lot of great websites out there for people like us, full of very simple and delicious recipes! You can also check out your local grocery store for such things as frozen meat-imitation foods (veggie burgers, veggie chicken nuggets, veggie hot dogs...) I will include some of my favourite vegetarian recipe website on here.

You have just made my evening knowing that so many animals will be saved simply because of your kindness! :)

  4. well the whole no dairy thing is vegan- not vegetarian. most vegetarians (me, for example) don't eat meat, chicken, or fish. the whole eggs thing is varied. good luck! But it gets easier if you take it step by step. eliminate certain non veggie foods one at a time, i heard that makes the transition easier.

  5. I'm craving a nice, juicy steak with raw onions. I want rare, too. Good stuff. Mmmm...

  6. Well you should be a Lactose-Vegetarian if you want dairy still. But if you want to be a Pollo-Vegetarian well that shouldn't even exist because you aren't a vegetarian if you eat meat, which chicken and fish are meat. But as for the vegetarian recipes you should try allrecipes.com that have a very wide variety.

  7. It's great you're interested in going veg. Chickens are animals so vegetarians don't eat them. (Vegetarians don't eat any animal flesh -- fish, chickens, etc.) You could be a lacto-vegetarian if you'd like to include dairy in your diet.

It's really easy to use fake meats instead of meat in your favorite meals and recipes. I also like this simple tofu scramble recipe:

The site http://www.tryveg.com is a great resource on vegetarianism. Good luck!
