Question:

Bed Bath and Beyond or JCPenney's? Kmart or Walmart?

I'm trying to decide where to register for our upcoming wedding. I am definitely registering at Lowe's as we could use some nice tools.

Originally I was going to register at Target and Macy's as well but then I read about how bad Target was at returns and keeping the registry up to date and I saw how expensive Macy's was.

Which would be the better place to register for china, sheets, towels, food processor, blender, etc; Bed Bath and Beyond or JCPenney's?

Which would be a better place to register for other things such as board games, video game controllers, tent, Kmart or Walmart?

Please don't tell me I am being tacky about the controllers and board games. No one needs to buy them if they don't want and they are part of entertaining guests.

  1. If the majority of your wedding guests could afford it, I'd definitely say Bed, Bath & Beyond. If not, JCPenney's is pretty nice too.

  2. i registered at jc penny's and only jc penny's and i was very happy, i got everything i needed there!

  3. You need to go ahead and select your china, silver, stainless, and crystal patterns.  Then, try to find the place with the best prices and register there for your tabletop items.  Don't choose your store and then limit yourself to the patterns they carry.  Get what you want.  Where I live, we don't have any K Marts or even Targets nearby, so I would go with Wal Mart.  Find out about the cost of shipping and see what their policy is for in store pickups.  (The last time I bought a wedding gift, I tried to order it from Target.  It was a small gift and they wanted to charge me $12 for a $35 gift!  I settled on a gift card!)  Department stores (Macy's, Dillard's, Belk, etc) will probably call you to pick up items that are ordered from the store.  If I was you, I would register at Wal Mart, Lowe's, Bed, Bath, And Beyond, and a department store that carries my tabletop items.  Good Luck!

Edit:  Don't forget about various department stores just because you don't shop there.  for example, Belk usually carries clothes for older women, so I don't buy clothes from there, BUT they do have some nice china there and their sales are good.

  4. do it at all of them:P

  5. I registered at Macy's as well as JC Penney's. I also know many people who register at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has a lot of great small appliances. Have you also thought about reistering at Kohl's?

Target is good, but they do have a horrible return policy and they do not update the registry.

Macy's is kind of a hit or miss. I lucked out when my fiance and I had registered. They do give you 20% off on gifts you buy off your registry after the wedding.

  6. I think you would get some better quality items at Bed, Bath and Beyond, and as far as controllers, my friends always go to walmart, plus, they are really good about returns. Good luck and congrats on the wedding!

  7. I think JC Penney's, especially for china and small appliances, would have a better selection than Bed Bath & Beyond.

What I like about Wal-Mart versus KMart is that they are in more places so your guests probably have better access to them. FYI: You might want to check at WalMart for some of the small appliances, they have a great selection.

  8. Why not pier one for the china and glasswear? Bed Bath and Beyond is good too...

Walmart has the best return policy... they take just about everything back... sometimes even without a receipt!

Oh, and I don't judge you about the games... My hubby works at GameStop, so he's a video game freak, and I absolutely love playing board games... We are both 24... ;)

  9. Personally, I really like Bed, Bath and Beyond.  So, I'd go with them.

  10. Take a pass on Wal-Mart; they are the official outlet for China. Doing business with China ruined my business.

  11. You're not being tacky at all, these are practical choices for a young couple.  You can't go wrong with JC Penney, and I think Wal-Mart just has a better selection of stuff than KMart has, plus it's a tidier and more pleasant place to shop overall.  Target is still good, but you're right that they are sticklers on returns.  You might also consider Pier 1 Imports.

  12. i would say walmart because those things are all over the place

target has really great sheets and towels and most everything else

i think that bed bath and beyond or jcpenny's may cost a little more than people may want to spend on a gift

just make sure everyone gives you the gift receipt with the gifts and you shouldn't have any problems returning items

  13. BB&B that is where we registered and they have great stuff in all price ranges for all of your guests
