  1. Make sure the newsprint is soy-based (most are these days) so it won't make your piggies ill.  Use a couple layers for comfort & spot-clean frequently.  Also, give your little guys a shallow box or similar "nest" & line it with flannel for them to snuggle up in.

We stopped using bedding for our guinea pig a long time ago-- it became obvious that he *prefers* a solid floor to do his happy dance on.  Also, it's really easy to keep his habitt clean b/c I can quickly change the soiled layers as needed & leave the clean parts alone.  When the flannel in his nest box gets soiled,I toss it in the laundry along with our rats' hammocks (gentle detergent, no softener).

  2. guinea pigs don't need expensive bedding just put some straw or hay or both in their and they will be fine. But under neath put a few layers of newspaper you dont need woodchips.

you can buy bags of them or buy it from a farmer and they will have a load for 8 pound then it will last you ages.

  3. woodshavings and hay

  4. Soy-Print newspapers best!

I know that one for sure.

  5. Well if you don't have enough money for bedding, why did you buy a guinea pig?

    Ok, sorry :(

  6. You can use kiln dried pine or carefresh--they are not expensive much. Or try using fleece.

  7. they will try to eat it.

  8. yeah, make sure the newspaper is soy-based ink, call and ask the newsprint company first!! they should tell you. you may even beable to get un-printed newspapers, if you can pick them up. paying for them youll probably have to do, but its probably still WAYYYY cheaper than bedding!! a mix of Aspen shavings, shredded paper (NOTE get a paper shredder, a cheap one for up to 5 layers at a time can be purchased for like under 20$) and tissue/toilet paper/ paper towles. if you have a membership card to Costco or similar, or you can buy big packages on-sale, it should be relatively cheap... well good luck and hope i helped!! =]  OH, you could also just put a flat layer of newspaper down then wood shavings in part of it, try both ways and see which one your piggy likes best!

  9. yes you can use ripped up paper as bedding for your  piggie.

AS LONG AS IT HAS NO INK ON IT u should be fine. o ya and try smaller pieces just so it is easier for them to move around. like long skinny strips.

    Good luck!

  10. I have 7 pigs in  a C& C cage

I use a generous layer of newspaper and cover that with sawdust.

I have 7 houses/tunnels so each can escape to their own hidey hole although some are big enough for 2 is they want to share! Usually they prefer being on their own! But i do not put extra bedding in the houses.

I presume your pigs live indoors like mine, in which case they won't need extra bedding.

  11. Have you tried fleece?

Or feed stores? Often they sell carefresh or even large bags of safe shavings for much cheaper?

Just make sure it is kiln dried.
