Bedroom ideas for 2 boys-ages 4 and 8?

My 2 boys share a room, and want it redecorated.

I am not sure what colours to do, as both of them like blue/red..but do these colours go together?

Also, their room is full of toys...are there any space saving ideas that you can think of?

  1. Blue and red go great together... you could do some walls blue and the other red, or go stripey, or even do the top-half one colour and the bottom half another colour and then cover where the colours meet with a themed border (may I suggest do a superhero theme?).

I would buy for each of them a chest that sits at the end of their beds, which would contain all their toys.

And can I suggest a growth chart too? A lot of children love that kind of thing...

  2. I think you should paint their room a Royal Blue colour. My nephew had his room decorated blue with rockets and planets and stars and stuff painted on. If they like cars or space or whatever, try painting pictures of this stuff on the walls. Or you could get special wall stickers. If you do not want something permanent on the walls though you could get pictures and put them in frames, maybe of racing cars or something. For storage ideas, try storage boxes a little like the ones on the link I've put in 'sources'. You could get red and blue ones and stack them up in some sort of pattern or something, or slide them under their beds. Maybe to go with the room you could get one of them a red duvet set and the other a blue one. & get a red rug. Hope I helped.

  3. Stars and stripes (American Flag) would look good.

You could do with something like this for the toys

I used to cut out the pictures from a catalogue that the boxes were to be used for - such as toy cars or wrestlers.  It means the boys will be able to tidy up their toys themselves and will get them into good habits.  You should also put some of their toys in the loft/cellar and swap them around 6 months at a time.  They get overfaced with too many toys and end up playing with none of them  - but sitck the lego away for a while and it will all they want to play with when it comes back.

I would probably do plain walls and get my colour from curtains/blinds, duvets, pillows and accessories, such as the storage.

  4. Ikea has an amazing range of space savers stuff.  One thing i hate is those idly bits and pieces like belts and the odd sunglasses, you can get over the door accessories hangers too for all of those things.

I always go to next website when im looking for inspiration.I think the football idea is always a good choice and also a safe option that they can grow with as they grow older.  Plus its got the blue and red theme!

  5. My boys are about the same age. One wall is blue and the other red (chosen football colours) and the other 2 are cream. There beds are 2 cabin beds with room underneath for storage. We went to ikea and bought storage boxes, stacked and labelled them.

My 4 year old found that the three steps up to his bed were fine.

  6. u can color it 2 colors blue and red ,, try to put thier toys in one space

get big plastic boxes from ikea or any where to keep them together and give  more space in the room .

  7. first paint a thick white line to split the room in half(to give the effect that they have their own room) then paint one side red and the other blue. put your 4 year olds bed and stuff on one side, and your 8 year old sons stuff on the other side. For more storage put bins underneath the bed to keep shoes or toys there.

  8. When it comes to space saving the first thing that comes to mind is a bunk bed.   They also make dual loft beds so that you can used all the floor space underneath the beds.  Then there are beds with the built in drawers under them.  The closet can be a lot of wasted space so look at that if you can,  if there is room move their dresser in there.  I did it in my boys room and they have so much more room to play.

  9. The two colours go fab together, kids love them and you can design any kind of boys room around blue and red.  Ikea is great for ideas and great for space saving ideas

  10. The primary colours are great for young boys, if you are thinking of giving it a theme space is a great one my little brother loved it.

  11. blue and red go together really well, and if you add yellow too, it will make the room a little happier.

nice themes are space, their favorite sports, of race car/hot rod themed. thats what my brothers did and they loved it.

for the toy issue, you can get one of those mesh netlike things that hangs in the corner of the room and throw their stuffed guys up there. and for the other toys you can get "under-bed-boxes" and fill them up and stick them under the bed. or convince the boys that if they sell some of their toys at a garage sale so that they can get the toy that they really want.

  12. First I would NOT do any character theme like cars or something, because when I was younger I had flowers everywhere and now Im 12 and redid it cause I HATED it. Trust me your kids probably wont be in to tractors and cars when there 12. Blue and red go together but I might look weird on walls. I would do like maybe blue walls then a r ed rim on the top or in the middle. Then I would get red bedspread for the one who likes red and blue for the other. And match everything. As for space saving just get a nice wood toybox. Its not messy it looks good and they can put toys in it. Hope I helped. : )

  13. I think it'd be best to keep the room a light colour, like white, cream or very light blue, this way if/when they get bored of it when they age it'll be easy to re-decorate. Also, if you have pale coloured walls, the room would look bigger, whereas if it was blue/red the room would look small and cluttered (especially with children's toys around :P). As for the toys, my younger brother had these ***, I'm sure there are many designs (like red & blue), and they look pretty cool too :)

You could also have just one wall painted light red or light blue :)

    good luck!

  14. Blue and Red are great together, usually a darker blue goes better on the walls and Red Bedding looks nice, or white walls with one red bedding and one blue bedding.  If they have a small room avoid a large toy box as much as possible...  If all the toys are in one big box they will need to take everything out to find one little car creating a huge mess over and over again that makes the room smaller over and over again.  Personally I love using the clear plastic drawers from Target (in the link below)...  The children can see exactly what type of toy is in each drawer and they are very easy to use, plus they come in a variety of sizes so even larger toys like imaginex will fit into a drawer...  Use the smaller drawers for heavy toys like cars because they are sturdier...  With the wheels on them they are easy to roll into the living room to play with the toys there, and then roll right back to the bedroom to put away.

  15. Try a surfing theme, it is really adorable the ones I have seen. They have a mixture of light and dark blue with red and white. Really neat. Toys are best in organizers, I have been noticing that when I have been looking at various preschoolers, one thing they all have in cubbies/ toy organizers in cubes and bins. It does help to organize and have a place for everything. Also shelving on walls that goes up like the closet maid white wire shelves if you can install them in their rooms would be nice, I saw that on SuperNanny and it worked nice. Good wishes, that is so good to have two boys together!

  16. red and dark blue do go together and if you get quite a big box an put all there toys in it then it will save quite a bit of room and some shelves would help to you could paint the shelves red and walls blue or the other way around.

  17. you should do something like bob the bilder, finding nemo, cars--

    you know, the movies?

they might like it more if you do their favorite movies.

    best of luck,

    erin

  18. Yes red and blue go together. My brothers (aged 6 and 4) have a space themed bedroom and they love it.
