  1. Here's a Social Security web page on appealing: http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10041.html

You can also find attorneys who will assist.  Private attorneys are entitled to a percentage of your retroactive benefits; so, they will take these cases.  Any many legal services/legal aid organizations handle these cases as well.

  2. most people are denied at least 2-3 times. If you have an attorney, take take care of all the appeals. all the paperwork and all. You just deal with one office. Most of the time without an attorney, you won't get it. You only have so long to appeal that decision but I would find me an attorney quickly.at least talk to one. they usually don't charge for that.

  3. The system is set up to where you need to get an Attorney. Most lawyers will not charge you until you have won the SSI case. You can find an Attorney on line or in any phone book. My husband was denied as well even though he suffered several strokes -then he suffered an aneurysm . Was paralyzed from the neck down for six months before he passed a way . The VA had misdiagnosed his condition and just kept treating him with high blood pressure meds. Turned out that he suffered from calcification of the brain stem and artery -could have used lazer treatment on the problem or something. HE IRONICALLY SUFFERED THE ANEURYSM RIGHT AFTER HE WAS TURNED DOWN BY SS I> Now I live with out him. Obama -08 for Universal Health care
