Been having lower stomach pains for last 2 years?

I've been having lower stomach pains for about 2 years now (below my belly button), but they're a bit weird in that it doesn't happen on a regular basis, and it's only at night. It can go months without happening, such as before the last time I had it, it had been 6 months past. I just ignored it before, but the pain was a lot worse the last time I had gotten it, to the point where I was going to vomit (Though I hate vomiting so I kept it down), which has never happened before.

The only way I can even stand the pain is to curl up in the fetal position, laying straight is far too painful, and going to the bathroom doesn't help at all. It's not because I'm pregnant, and it's not STD's since I'm not sexually active.

I recently got a urine test but it came back clear, and I have an appointment for an ultrasound coming up but ..

I'm just wondering if anyone has ANY idea to what it is? It's taking ages for the hospital to get back to me about anything, and I'm terribly impatient and just want some idea to what it might be? I'm 18, I don't have any family history of bladder issues, stones, whatever. I assumed that because the urine test came back clear, it wasn't anything to do with that. My periods are regular, etc etc.

Thank you for any help in advance.

  1. IBS - Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Jesus, it's THE most painful thing ever! I was diagnosed with it 6 years ago, as I had the exact same symptoms as you. I now take Mebeverine twice a day and it only flares up if I eat something that unsettles it, like chilli or tomatoes (everyone's different though). Obviously, get yourself checked out, as it might be something more serious. BUT - if it is IBS - DON'T WORRY, it' treatable & you don't have to live with it!

    Good luck

  3. I started getting pains like that around your age, to the point where i couldn't even get out of bed as it was so painful to move. It took me a few visits to my doctor before she would refer me to the hospital for some tests, which was a complete waste of time. I had loads of scans (internal/external), x rays, blood tests, people poking and prodding me but they could never find out what was wrong. Although they said that it was not IBS, when it got to the point where i was wanting answers, to get rid of me they said it was IBS and it would sort itself out. I was off work for 2 years because of the mystery pains, the pain disappeared for about 2 years and i have now been struck with it again. Sadly the doctors wont refer me again as the test all showed nothing before. Make sure you eat plenty of fruit, fibre etc drink loads of water. Just keep pestering your doctors for answers and i really do hope you get them, as i know how horrible it is not knowing what is basically ruining your life

  4. gosh id love to help but i have no idea.

best thing to do is let the doctors sort it.

    goodluck.x
