I have been seeing more of them than usual lately, enough to be destracting. Could it have something to do with the focus of my eyes?

  1. It's actually not "microscopic worms" in your eye, it's actually what is called "floaters" it is the normal gelatinous material of the vitreous which is the back segment of the eye. If it is more than you had noticed I would have your eye doctor take a look at it, and would actually recommend an Ophthalmologist as they are more medically inclined to do the correct testing.

It has nothing to do with the focus of your eyes as it is just the material floating above the retina.

  2. I have this too, tends to be worse when I'm dehydrated so keep your liquid levels up and don't overdo the beers!

  3. These are generally normal and are harmless, but annoying.  The more birthdays you have had, the more likely you are to experience them.  Generally, they wax and wane and you have to make friends with them.

If they are accompanied by flashing lights or you get a great big one or a whole lot of them at once, or a curtain or veil appears to be blocking part of your vision, they could be the more serious type which could indicate retinal tears or detachment.

If you are uncomfortable with your doctor's answer, get a second opinion.
