Well...it started out extremely small and then got really big...like the whole left side of my face I felt like I couldn't see...it finally moved off to the side and is gone now...should I go see a doctor?

and I have been seeing small black spots only noticeable in white backgrounds for several months but I figured it wasn't a big deal and it was just an annoying thing.

  1. my mom has this problem. see a doc.

  2. Either go to the hospital or make an absolute emergency appointment with an ophthalmologist. This could be a potentially extremely serious problem.

  3. The small black dots sound like floaters and they are usually harmless.  Although, if you have a huge onset of floaters and a flash of light, it can be a sign of a retinal detachment, which is an emergency situation.  Flashing lights, though, can also be caused by migraines, which may or may not have other symptoms.  I suggest seeing a doctor as soon as possible to rule out anything serious.  And if part of your vision blurs or seems to be missing, head to an emergency room.  Good luck!

  4. There are three possible conditions that come to mind.  Small floaters alone are generally harmless, just annoying.  Floaters accompanied by flashing lights can indicated problems with the retina and should be seen as soon as possible (withing 24 to 48 hours).  Finally, if the light came and stayed for several minutes, i.e., didn't flash or strobe, it could be an ocular migraine, a visual hallucination that occurs due to a vascular or neurological shift of unknown origin.  This is also generally harmless, just annoying.  In any case, it warrants a trip to the eye doctor to rule out the more dangerous possibilities.
