  1. you can learn to be smart, but you cant 'learn' to be intelligent

  2. My opinion? Being clever is being steetwise, whereas intelligence is a measure of speed and ability to work out problems.

  3. I agree with the first answer.

  4. Intelligence is having the ability to learn  things without too much difficulty and to retain what has been learned. Being smart is the ability to overcome the lack of intelligence, and find short cuts to being clever, to the degree that you are not left disadvantaged.

  5. intelligence is a measured thing.  when i hear intelligent i think of the i.q. test.   when i think someone is smart, i think they could have varying degrees of intelligence.  but when smart is implied regardless of the amount of intelligence, i just think they put what they have to better use and apply it to a point that they may appear more intelligent than they really are.  okay did you get all of that rambling i just did?  if so you could be smart as well as intelligent.  love the avatar, btw

  6. One of the most intelligent people I know is barely able to tie his own shoelaces. I always equate smart more with common sense.

  7. Clearly they're synonymous.

My take is that smart is the more general term; there are many kinds of smartness; I usually think of intelligent as being a more verbal thing (unless it's used in a phrase with a modifier, such as "visually intelligent").

Both have to do with quickness on the uptake; it not taking long to take in a new thing, to understand something, to be able to do a new thing.

Now you've made me want to check one of the dictionaries we have -- I bet there's a synonomy on these and the other closely-related words (one of those wonderful paragraphs that distinguishes synonyms).

  8. you know, back in the 60's, my brother had a Batman costume much like the one you are sporting......but his was the original.

    TaTa.

  9. intelligence is being wise about life and people and day to day stuff, and general stuff.

Being smart is about being brainy or clever and knowing alot about a subject.
