hi, i'm soon to be moving to this area and I've done some research but I wanted to know from people who lived there or know the area well. What's it like? Friendly/safe? How diverse is it (integrated), or is it quite ethnically divided? how's shopping? Are there any nice areas to live in? (Fairly quiet, family friendly but within reasonable travelling distance to shops and restaurants)?

Thanks!! Much appreciated!

  1. I lived in Leeds for 18 months and couldn't wait to leave.  Bradford is a h**l hole.

Maybe look at living in Harrogate, it's quite nice.

  2. I spent two years in Leeds attending university.

Leeds is like many major metropolitan areas in that it is ethnically diverse.  There are several large middle-eastern pockets (Pakistani, Indian, etc.).  There is some friction between groups, but not far and beyond what you would see in any other major metropolitan area.  Safety is a relative term; I felt safe, but generally I stayed fairly close to campus in the main.

If at all possible, I'd recommend visiting and doing some research whilst there; something on a map or on a website may look well and good, but in person may be an entirely different story.

  3. never been to bradford but been to leeds.  its just like any big northern city, nice enough city centre, good nightlife, good and bad areas to live

headingley and otley road are popular student areas

so is hyde park, but its not very nice at all - burglary central!

    whatever you do, avoid chapeltown!

  4. hiya i live in pudsey which is in between leeds and bradford i never go to bradford its a dump and leeds is a lot better like above headingley is full of students but there are a lot of nice areas such as tong, rodley, horseforth,  i would defo stick to leeds not bradford if you look at the estate agents around ls1 (postcode leeds centre)

    estate agents are:

    homebuyers

    manning stainton

    whitegates

they are abouth the best and it should bring up surrounding areas

there are a lot of good bars and resturants in leeds centre and its also great for shopping

    hope this helps

  5. i live there :D its great

  6. i was born in bradford and now live in leeds. it depends wich areas you choose in the citys i know about them all

  7. Huddersfield or Wakefield so much better. As with every area there are rough places. I live about 10 mins from leeds prison. Move there...lovely castle and lovely neighbours

  8. hiya love i have lived in leeds all my life it is a great place to live with all the big name shops in the center as others have said there are a few places to avoid like ls 7 chapletown also gipton and halton moor your best bet is to live in northwest leeds which is suburban rather than inner city but dont go to ireland wood as this is the new gipton of the northwest they put allsorts there..it is a better citythan bradford ...you sound as though you are a student ????so you may end up in headingley which is where most of the studnts live with loads of bars eateries etc and not too far away from city center as for ethnic divieded i would say leeds is that ....but you wont be disappointed with shopping as we have everything here ....enjoy leeds

  9. i lived in both places, but prefer leeds to bradford!

cheap curry houses in bradford, but good high class restaurants

in leeds plus fab night time scene. if you got a bit of money, quite a bit though then live in harrogate or nearby.(30 min train journey into leeds) whatever you do, i wish you all the best.
